25 September 2026
According to a notice issued to members by the Insurance Information Centre on 23 September 2026, the tariff used at land border crossings will apply to motor third-party insurance policies for vehicles registered outside Northern Cyprus and Türkiye. The change applies to policies issued on or after 1 October 2026.
Premiums for vehicles registered in Northern Cyprus or Türkiye will continue to be calculated under the No-Claims Discount and Increased Premium Regulation. Vehicles registered elsewhere, such as a German-registered car, will be exempt from those no-claims and increased-premium rules. The Centre says policies that do not meet the new requirement will not be accepted into its system.
The applicable tariff and the place where a policy is issued are separate matters. Insurance for vehicles arriving from South Cyprus will continue to be arranged at border crossings. Policies for other foreign-registered vehicles, including German-registered cars, may be arranged at authorised offices using the border-crossing tariff.
The notice sets out the tariff rule and the system check. It does not state the tariff amounts.
