On the Karşıyaka coastal road, a premium SUV may still appear driveable after its wheel reaches a broken road edge.
The risk becomes more visible after dark, when oncoming headlights and uneven roadside levels make the usable asphalt difficult to judge. A driver creating space for another vehicle may move only a few centimetres towards the shoulder.
That movement can be enough.
At 21:20, a Range Rover travels along the Karşıyaka coastal road.
An oncoming vehicle approaches.
The driver moves closer to the roadside.
The front wheel reaches the uneven asphalt edge.
The rim makes contact.
The tyre sidewall is compressed against the raised surface.
The vehicle continues for a short distance before a pressure warning appears.
The visible rim mark may appear minor. The tyre sidewall, however, may have suffered a cut, internal separation or structural weakening that cannot be assessed from the driver’s seat.
The defining question is not whether the vehicle can still move.
It is whether continuing to drive could enlarge the damage.
The local sequence is usually consistent:
The vehicle moves towards the road edge.
The wheel reaches an uneven surface.
The rim and tyre make contact.
A pressure warning or steering change appears.
The vehicle requires controlled recovery rather than continued driving.
Driving further on a damaged tyre can affect the rim and may create additional exposure around the wheel area. A premium SUV’s weight can also place greater pressure on a weakened sidewall.
Towing becomes relevant when the vehicle cannot be moved safely without risking further damage. The purpose is not convenience. It is to preserve the condition created by the original contact until the tyre, rim and wheel area can be inspected.
The warning sign should not be read alone. Tyre pressure, visible sidewall condition, steering response and wheel vibration need to be considered together.
This local risk is examined within the Karşıyaka Comprehensive Car Insurance Guide. Wider vehicle-damage patterns across Kyrenia are covered by the Kyrenia Comprehensive Car Insurance Guide, while island-wide risks are addressed in the North Cyprus Comprehensive Car Insurance Guide. Damage to the insured vehicle is assessed under the terms of North Cyprus Comprehensive Car Insurance.
On the Karşıyaka coastal road, towing may become necessary not because the vehicle has stopped moving, but because every additional metre could turn tyre damage into a wider wheel-area loss.
